Webster University DEI Conference
I was tasked with designing the graphics and leading in the art direction for 2023 Webster University's 8th annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Conference. The highly anticipated event provides a safe space for people to share their experiences and learn from each other. The event produced a 55% registration increase and a 17% sponsorship increase from the previous year. In addition, media coverage reached nearly 6.5 million people.
My biggest challenge was to create and give art direction for the theme of the conference which was Focusing Next Level Equity Work in a Time of Transition. The prior two years only hosted the event virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the 2023 conference needed a graphic that could be adapted for print and digital applications.
My plan of action for the art direction was to utilize Webster's brand colors to highlight the most significant content. The colors were also used to represent the diverse communities that the event seeks to highlight.
The headline text with the overlapping shadow treatment (Diversity Equity & Inclusion Conference) represents the underrepresented communities having a spotlight shown on them to stand out and be properly represented.
